Through-Space Spin-Spin Coupling In Acetylenic Systems. Ab Initio and DFT Calculations

چکیده
We have investigated, by means of ab initio and DFT calculations, the magnitude of through-space spin-spin couplings (JCH and JHH) in CH/π bonded van der Waals dimers involving acetylene, and in a structurally related covalent compound (4ethynylphenanthrene). Within regions where the interaction is stabilizing JHH couplings are very small (< 0.1 Hz) for all complexes. In the acetylene-methane complex JCH is also very small, whereas in the acetylene-benzene complex and the acetylene dimer it shows a relatively large dependence on the tilt angle from the T-shaped arrangement, for which the smallest values are calculated, to a parallel slipped arrangement where JCH is ca. 0.5 Hz. The relative magnitude of through-space couplings in 4-ethynylphenanthrene and a tilted acetylene-benzene dimer, featuring the same internuclear arrangement as in model dimers, are compared.

The NMR indirect nuclear spin–spin coupling constants for some small rigid hydrocarbons: molecular equilibrium values and vibrational corrections
The indirect nuclear spin–spin coupling constants of allene and of two sterically strained hydrocarbons – cyclopropane and cyclopropene – calculated at different levels of electronic-structure theory are compared with each other and with experimental equilibrium constants, obtained from experiment by subtracting calculated vibrational contributions. It is found that, even in a relatively small ...
متن کاملThe Spin–Spin Coupling Constants in Ethane, Methanol and Methylamine: A Comparison of DFT, MCSCF and CCSD Results
The spin–spin coupling constants in ethane, methylamine, and methanol have been calculated using density-functional theory (DFT), coupled-cluster singlesand-doubles (CCSD) theory, and multiconfigurational self-consistent field (MCSCF) theory so as to benchmark the performance of DFT against high-level ab initio methods and experimental data. For each molecule, the Karplus curve has been evaluat...

A benchmark ab initio and density functional (DFT) study has been carried out on the electron affinities of the firstand secondrow atoms. The ab initio study involves basis sets of spdfgh and spdfghi quality, extrapolations to the 1-particle basis set limit, and a combination of the CCSD(T), CCSDT, and full CI electron correlation methods. Scalar relativistic and spin-orbit coupling effects wer...
متن کاملAb initio and relativistic DFT study of spin-rotation and NMR shielding constants in XF₆ molecules, X = S, Se, Te, Mo, and W.
We present an analysis of the spin-rotation and absolute shielding constants of XF6 molecules (X = S, Se, Te, Mo, W) based on ab initio coupled cluster and four-component relativistic density-functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results show that the relativistic contributions to the spin-rotation and shielding constants are large both for the heavy elements as well as for the fluorine nuc...
